Jaap Klevering is a sound and performance artist. He is an improvisor, developer of new ideas and innovative developer of art projects. Jaap is born Dutch and lives and works in Finland since 1983.
The basis to his work is silence and slowing down. Having lived and worked outside of urban areas has had important impact on his artistic view.
Jaap's work doesn't go into one category. He uses voice, movement, speech, digitally shaped sound scapes, video and objects. He collaborates with musicians, dance artists and visual artists. He teaches his work at dance and theater academies in Finland and abroad.
He received financial support from among others the Finnish Art Council and the European Union. In 1999 he received a 3-year grant from the Finnish Art Council and in 2009 a 1-year grant from the Finnish Culture Foundation.
